Racing The Dragon Boat is a documentary photography book about the dragon boat races held in my hometown of Yiwu. Under the influence of the government, dragon boat racing, which historically had no roots here, has become the most grand event in the area. Athletes from nearby villages race dragon boats on the river right outside my home. Yiwu is known for its thriving international trade, attracting participants and spectators from all over China and even the world. On the day of the race, it rained heavily, and I captured the diverse array of shops, tourists, and umbrellas. This book is about the vivid colors rarely seen in rural areas, the appropriation and interaction of cultures, and the ongoing, simultaneous changes in both my hometown and myself.
